The Atlanta art
scene lost a great mover and shaker in September
2005 with the sudden death of Ben Apfelbaum as a
result of complications from knee replacement
surgery. Ben was the director of the Spruill Gallery. Under his direction, the gallery became
known as the best gallery outside of the Perimeter.
For those who knew Ben, he was a one-of-a-kind
personality who was larger than life. He seemed to
know so many movers and shakers from the 1960s to
the present in New York, Atlanta, and elsewhere in
the world. He provided me with many opportunities to
exhibit my artwork at the Spruill Gallery and
introduced me to his associates. The art world
mourns his loss. |
